The 8th grade Roughnecks dropped a tough loss to Sabine Monday to finish out the season at 9-5. A 5 point 3rd quarter for White Oak put them in a hole they could not climb out of, eventually falling short 36-25. The loss put their district record at 6-3, with 2 of the losses coming at the hands of the Cardinals. The Necks shot a measly 2 of 16 from the free throw line. Landyn Grant was high point man for White Oak with 12.
“It’s tough ending the season with a loss, the most frustrating thing to me is Sabine beat us twice this year and both games free throws cost us the game. Moving forward, hopefully the guys have gained the knowledge that free throws are vital. Plus you should never miss free throws-they’re free.”
White Oak: 3-10-5-7…..25
Scoring: Grant (12), Carter (6), Tyner (5), Mumphrey (2)

The Roughnecks picked up win number 9 on the season after defeating Harmony Thursday night. The Necks held the Eagles to 4 single digit scoring quarters, as well as only giving up 3 made field goals on the night. Landyn Grant was top point man with 16, followed by Hayden Craig’s 9.
“We put together 4 good quarters of basketball. A great overall game-turnovers were limited, we took and made good shots from the floor, and the defense played great.”
White Oak travels to Sabine Monday for their final game of the year. Monday’s match will mark the 3rd meeting between the Roughnecks and Cardinals this season. White Oak took game 1 in the WO Lions Club Tourney 34-31. Sabine survived a late 4th quarter rally in White Oak 41-36 back on Jan. 16.
“Monday’s game is going to be big. It’s a battle for 2nd in district. Playing Sabine is always tough, playing in Sabine, even more of a challenge. We have to play well in all facets in order to get the win.”
White Oak: 14-13-12-10…..49
Scoring: Grant (16), Craig (9), Mumphrey (7), Kneifl (7), Carter (4), Jacyno (2), Hodges (2), Brondum (2).
