8th Necks Dominate Bears

Noah Carter, Drake Kneifl, and Landyn Grant all put in 9 points in the Roughnecks dominating win against Gladewater tonight. All players added points as White Oak coasts to a 42-18 victory. Quarters 2,3, and 4 all had double digit scoring from White Oak. The Necks used full court press, half court traps, and man to man defense to smother Gladewater’s chances for points. The Necks also shot 16 of 26 from the free throw line. With the win, White Oak moves to 8-4 on the season and 5-2 in district play.

“We needed a convincing victory-it was good for our guys. We were able to switch our defenses throughout the night to keep them off kilter.”

White Oak travels to Harmony next Thursday before closing out the season against Sabine the following Monday.

8th Necks get sunk by Cardinals

In a rematch from an early season clash, White Oak found themselves on the wrong end of a key district matchup against Sabine. Sabine jumped out to a 16-6 1st quarter lead due to a full court press that opened the game up to an 8-2 run. After a quick adjustment, White Oak was able to withstand Sabine’s pressure throughout the night. The Necks played from behind all game, but eventually cut the Cardinal lead to 4 with 1:30 left to play. A hard foul by White Oak in an attempt to stop the clock resulted in a flagrant foul and put Sabine on the line plus possession. The end result put Sabine up 5 to seal the win 41-36. Both Landyn Grant & Caden Tyner finished in double digits for the Necks on the night.

“Our guys played hard all night. When you face a team who views you as their rival you are always going to get their best shot. Sabine gave us all we wanted, we were able to hold our own, but down the stretch we could not capitalize on opportunities. The good news is we get another shot at them last game of the year.”

White Oak drops to 7-4 on the year and 4-2 in district. The Necks will face Sabine for a 3rd round battle Feb. 4.

The Roughnecks host Gladewater next Thursday in a key district matchup.

8th Necks comes up short against West Rusk

The 8th grade boys traveled to West Rusk Thursday night and found themselves on the wrong end against West Rusk. The loss marks the first blemish for the Necks’ district record 4-1 and brings the overall record to 5-2. The Necks found themselves down 9 at half, and could never climb back into the ballgame.

“Despite losing 47-22, we played our hearts out. West Rusk was scrappy and physical, and we, for the most part, matched that. They pulled the ball out of the net and transitioned faster than any team we’ve seen this year.”

Landyn Grant finished with 9 points while Caden Tyner dropped in 7 for White Oak. The Necks travel to Big Sandy this weekend before returning home next Thursday to play Sabine.
